1st Birthday The Very Hungry Caterpillar 2 tier Cake

Sweet Mommy A got us to this cake for her little boy's first birthday. When she first contacted us, i was this close to jumping up in the air in with excitement, because, really, i had been pinning for a chance to have a go at this cake for a really long time! 

This book held so much meaning to me, because it was one of the first book i read to my daughter when she was a baby. My little girl and i had a good time reminiscing and going through the book while creating this cake. It was a good bonding session. 

One of the characteristics of Eric Carle's books was his oil painted pictures. The brush strokes are very prominent and we tried to recreate that effect. When we were done with cake, we realized we had used up every single brush we had in the house, and the kitchen was looking more like an art studio rather than a bakery! : P
