This was done for an old friend of mine. She and her uber talented sister of 53A fame (you have to check out her vidz on YouTube, she has the most amazing voice!) were looking for an awesome cake for their popz birthday. They gave me a list of things their dad loves, from the iPad, to The Beatles, to Hawaii-O-Five. i knew i had to squeeze time out for a Beatles themed cake. : )
So, we eventually settled for a Beatles Drum Cake, and i gave it a bit of a hippie and spunky touch by splattering black edible ink, peace sign cut outs and big blossom flowers to represent the hippie era. so fun. especially the paint splattering part. ha.
The size of the entire drum came up to be 9inches in diameter, but because the cake was meant to feed just 20 (and also because i can't defy gravity!) i made just the top half of the set up in cake and the bottom half with styrofoam.
I asked the girls what were their dad's 2 most favorite beatles albums and it was White Revolver and Rubber Soul. i printed the album covers on edible icing sheet and placed them alongside the drum.
Cake was vanilla with salted caramel and oreos filling.
